When People Ask About Africa

People always ask me about Africa. Instead of my limited words, I like to show them pictures.

I first fell in love with Kenya and Tanzania when I was 6 years old. No one is quite sure where the obsession came from as I had no connections to Africa at that time, but I wanted to save all of the African elephants. I used to write poems and stories about Africa and African elephants. I even did a report on Kenya in the first grade and I later drew a picture of giraffes in fifth grade for Jane Goodall when she visited our school.

Then one day when I was 24, I met a tall handsome man named Stephen who was born and raised in Kenya and he came to speak at a college program I was working with. I literally sobbed uncontrollably on the front row as he shared stories of Africa. Then he asked if he could take me on a date, which led to a relationship that eventually crossed oceans when he moved to the island of Madagascar.

Fast forward to when I flew to meet Stephen in Kenya where my dream to visit Africa would finally be complete. Stephen asked me to marry Him on the equator in Kenya with African elephants and other animals in the distance. This amazing proposal took place on a conservatory that Jane Goodall established.

Since then we've lived in both Madagascar and Kenya and we have several partnerships and projects in East Africa. We were even on House Hunters International (a HGTV show) for our rental home in Madagascar.

There really aren't adequate words to ever describe my heart for the people I've met over there or the lovely sights.

This is why I share photos instead of only words, so that others could catch small glimpses of my heart and fall in love with Africa too.

Now you know a little more about the heart behind the dreamer who started Kibibi and why I'm passionate about starting this business to continue funding projects and empowering women in East Africa.

I want to hear from you! Have you been to Kenya or to Africa? What special stories do you have from there? Are you a world traveler? What is your favorite place to visit?

Hello, I bought some baskets at the Affair of the Heart show in Tulsa. I really love them. They are beautiful. I was looking if I might be able to find more in the future. I hope you add more baskets to your website in the future! Thank you!
